We would like to provide you with some tips to get your semester going and create best practices to ensure you have the best semester possible: Make sure you have all your textbooksAt this point, you should have already gotten your textbooks. But journalists are seasoned procrastinators, right? If you haven't done so yet, get those books ASAP! The SJMC faculty members provide a detailed syllabus that informs you about which textbooks will be needed for your assigned course. Do not wait until the last minute to purchase your textbooks because you do not want to fall behind. Also, get comfortable with your professors and the ways to get in contact with them, for this will be your instructor for the remaining of the semester. Plan aheadThe university has a calendar of all events, and your syllabus has days off from classes planned out ahead of time. Grab a calendar, and mark off dates to make sure class isn’t missed due to scheduling conflicts. Time management is very important in college, and it’s imperative we spend our time effectively. Also, set aside some time for studying your material; this will be key in a hectic schedule Start an accomplishment journalWe all have goals we want to achieve for the semester, and the best way to accomplish these goals are to see them and mark them down when accomplished. This allows you the visualization of the route to the goal and the feeling of the accomplishment once it’s done. Stay positive! We understand life circumstance can take a toll on everyone and school can take a hit because of it. As long as you remain positive and continue your best practices, you will be a successful bobcat. Also, remember all of the great services provided by our university, such as the Writing Center, the Counseling Center and academic advising. Have a great spring semester, bobcats!
