Dorothy Patterson, advertising senior, was on the team that placed second for creating an integrated communications campaign in eight hours for client MJWJ Global Radio Network at the 2013 American Advertising Federation (AAF)-Houston Student Competition and Conference held November 1 – 2.

More than 200 participants were split into 20 teams consisting of students from universities and colleges in the AAF’s 10th District, including Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas A&M University, Louisiana State University, West Texas A&M, The University of Texas-Austin, Sam Houston State University, Oklahoma State University and the University of Houston.

After a 30-minute meeting with the client Friday morning, teams departed to work on their campaigns at sponsoring advertising agencies and media and communication companies throughout Houston. In addition to developing a creative strategy, each team was required to put together a complete campaign plans book and a 10-minute presentation video. While students worked, professors including Ad Club advisor Emmeline Aguirre, met and networked with industry professionals.

This is the second year members of the Ad Club of Texas State attended the conference, and 10 mass communication and communication design students attended. It’s the first year however, members participated as a sponsored organization. In 2012, Ad Club member and officer Rebecca Ciceri was on the third place team. The Ad Club hopes to continue to have a strong presence at the AAF-Houston Student Conference and Competition and to establish a winning tradition in the coming years.
