Exciting changes to campus media are underway this summer at Texas State. KTSW 89.9-FM and campus newspaper The University Star are moving in to the Trinity building together. This construction commenced at the end of the spring semester 2016 and is scheduled to be done by the beginning of the fall semester. In KTSW's former space will soon be a computer lab, teaching lab, student lounge area and a "maker space" for the SJMC's digital efforts. In the meantime, KTSW has relocated to the third floor in Old Main while things are underway.Brittany Robinson, the Station Manger for KTSW, is thrilled about the new location. She’s ready to see how things play out, expecting it to be difficult for some and easy for others to adjust to the personnel transition. Robinson tells us both she and the editor-in-chief of The University Star are very excited to come together."We're coming in with an open mind. They're coming in with an open mind. We're a totally new generation of staff," Robinson said.KTSW and The University Star are hoping to have a grand opening event in the fall to promote their new location, as well as their their new relationship together.“That will be the start of KTSW and The University Star. We’re not one, we’re not the same, but we are both different media outlets here at Texas State and we’re both cool with each other,” Robinson said. The Construction Contract Administrator, Kristin Kibling and the Facilities Planning, Design and Construction team are pleased with how things are progressing."I think this is going to be a very successful project," Kibling said. The team meets once a week to go over the progress of the project. Although they hired a architect to help create a space plan, KTSW and The University Star contributed ideas for the new space. We will continue to follow up with their progress through the summer.
