Sjmc Students Win 2020 Award Of Excellence

Jameson Dunn and Hector Montemayor Perez from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication earned an Award of Excellence from the Broadcast Educators Association for their documentary, Coahuiltecans.
The documentary, entered in the BEA Festival of Media Arts Short Form Documentary competition, focuses on the Miakan/Garza band of the Coahuiltecan people as they seek to keep their culture alive in the modern world. Special attention is paid to the Coahuiltecan creation story, which centers on Spring Lake, and the annual Sacred Springs Powwow at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment.
The story was completed as the final project for MC4324 (Visual Storytelling) under the guidance of Dan Seed, a lecturer in the Electronic Media Program within the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
