Name: Kathleen Ransleben

Title: Academic Advisor

Hometown: Caldwell, TX

Current city: New Braunfels, TX

What brought you to the SJMC at Texas State University? I started out as a student in the program and also worked as a student worker for the SJMC. When I was graduating, an academic advisor position became available, so I applied for it and was offered the job.

How long have you been with the SJMC? This coming August, I will have been with the SJMC for 10 years.

Awards/recognitions received: I was recognized for serving as the 2013 NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) Region 7 Conference Co-Chair and for serving as the TEXAAN President for 2012-2013.

What are some of your hobbies or things you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy gardening, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

What inspires you? Being happy.

What do you find most fulfilling or rewarding about teaching college students? I don’t teach college students, but what is fulfilling about working with them is ultimately seeing them graduate and succeed after college.

Please offer any advice you may have for current SJMC students: From an advisor's perspective, I advise getting to full-major status and being admitted to the SJMC as soon as possible. If you can, try to do an internship before you graduate.
