In Memoriam: Diana “DeeDee” Fuentes

The Texas State University School of Journalism and Mass Communication mourns the unexpected passing of lecturer and journalism leader Diana “DeeDee” Fuentes on Friday, March 20, 2026. Diana served as executive director of Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) since 2021 and was a proud Texas State graduate, earning her Master’s in Mass Communication in 2022. With more than 35 years in journalism, she was known for her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the field.Her impact on the journalism community and on those who knew her will not be forgotten.

In Memoriam: Kym Fox

The Texas State University School of Journalism and Mass Communication mourns the passing of Professor Kym Fox, a dedicated educator, mentor, and journalism leader, on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Kym served as a professor of practice and longtime leader of the journalism program, guiding students and shaping the curriculum for more than two decades. Before joining Texas State, she spent 23 years as a journalist, including her role as deputy metro editor at the San Antonio Express-News. She was known for her commitment to teaching, mentorship, and lasting impact on generations of students. Her impact on her students and the field of journalism will be remembered.
