    • United Way of Williamson County seeks interns to work with the development director and the focus will be on fundraising activities. Duties will include some communications, development of fundraising and marketing materials, prospect research and assisting with events. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with InDesign is a plus.

    • The nonprofit San Antonio Sports Foundation has several unpaid internships every semester. Interns can expect to gain experience in public relations, advertising, marketing, event management and promotions. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is essential.

      Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm, at the SAS offices in San Antonio, Texas. They must also be available to work San Antonio Sports events, many of which occur on weekends and evenings, as directed by their immediate supervisors.

    • The Downtown Austin Alliance offers internships in the fall, spring and summer. The internships are for full-time undergraduate or graduate students seeking class credit. 

      The student would work on a range of marketing and communications projects, including communications strategy planning, media relations, social network marketing, writing, events planning and database building and other administrative tasks. The student should be at least a junior and plan to work 20-25 hours a week.

    • Guerra DeBerry Coody of San Antonio offers several unpaid internships for the fall, spring and summer. Interns for the full-service agency can expect to get involved in various areas, including account service/marketing, creative/graphic design, copywriting, public relations, promotions and broadcast.

      The deadline for the fall internship is the first week of July, for the spring by Thanksgiving, and for the summer, it is the first of April.

    • Visit Austin is a private, nonprofit 501 C-6 corporation contracted by the City of Austin to market the city as a convention and tourism destination. Under the terms of this contract, Visit Austin also houses the Film Commission, Music Office and Sports Commission. Visit Austin seeks interns for the following departments:  Convention Sales, Convention Services, Marketing Communications, Music/Film, Tourism, Sports Commission and our Visitor Center.

      Internships at Visit Austin are paid. In addition, interns receive a monthly stipend to pay for parking and transportation. The program’s general duration is a maximum of one semester. Interns are required to work 15-20 hours per week within office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.

    • The Athletic Marketing Team is a group of undergraduate and graduate students interested in sports marketing and game operations. The Team has many opportunities for students interested in gaining hands-on experience and being a part of Bobcat sports.

      As a member, you work directly with the Texas State University Athletic Department and the 16 NCAA Division 1 intercollegiate sports programs at the University.     • EDF offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of programs and departments throughout the organization. The ultimate goal of our internship and fellowship program is to provide high-quality experiences (including relevant projects and opportunities for networking) that form the foundation for any individual who is serious about pursuing an environmental career.

      The intern will work with the EDF+Business marketing and communications team to research conferences and identify media opportunities for EDF’s experts.     • The University Honors Program seeks an intern to help promote the program and events through social media and print ads. A major project will include working closely with Texas State Office of Admissions on planning and executing an event during two Bobcat Days to help with recruitment of prospective high school juniors. The intern will also maintain the Honors Facebook page and manage Web content using Gato Content Management System; help in designing ads, fliers, creating press releases and PSAs for the various events put on by the Honors Program, including several Common Experience events. The student will be crucial in helping gain publicity for events and putting on the events. Experience in InDesign, Photoshop, Word, PowerPoint and Excel is a plus.     • Intern in the web department at KTBC-TV in Austin. The web department generates 20 to 30 stories a day and produces even more in the fall with high school sports. The internship will be one in which the students get hands-on training learning how to public and post stories to the website.     • KXAN-Austin is looking for interns to join its Web team. You'll be right in the middle of the action, interacting with reporters, anchors and producers, and helping to provide content for KXAN.com and TheCWAustin.com. Tasks would include editing copy, posting videos, keeping an eye on wires, creating online photo galleries and much more. Beyond that, you'll have a chance to contribute your ideas to better Austin's most popular broadcast TV website.

      Knowledge of AP style is a must. Candidates will be required to take a brief copy-editing test. You must be registered in an internship class and receive credit during the semester you intern. The internship is an unpaid position, and you must be available to work 15 or more hours per week. Spring, summer and fall internships are available.       WHAT YOU GET TO DO: For the fall semester, KUT is looking for interns to help boost our web presence and content.     • The Dallas Morning News, Texas’ leading newspaper, offers internships in local news, breaking news, copy editing, business, features, editorial, enterprise, audience, sports and digital design/data. Internships are also available in photography, in political reporting at the Washington, D.C., bureau and at our Spanish-language publication, Al Día. Most internship periods take place during the summer, however the sports internship occurs during the fall, generally starting around Labor Day.

      The Dallas Morning News interns are treated like full-time staffers. They are expected to work in the departments to which they are assigned unless they have prior approval from their supervisor.

      Interns will be assigned to report, write, photograph and edit active stories or columns that will be slated for publication in print and/or online under their own names. Interns will be held to the same journalistic standards, quality guidelines and ethics as full-time staffers, including adherence to professional decorum in dress, promptness and courtesy.

      Interns are expected to have a basic knowledge of AP style and be able to use social media in their work. The ability to speak another language would be helpful and some familiarity with digital (online) media is necessary.

      Eligibility

      Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) or they may have graduated within six months prior to the internship start date.

      Previous daily newspaper experience is requested.

       

      Compensation

      College internships are full time for 12 weeks and interns are paid $15.00 an hour for a 40-hour work week. Interns should have a car in good working condition.

      Schedules

      The standard work week is Monday-Friday, but some weekend, night and holiday shifts may be required. Also, all interns are expected to attend weekly brown bag sessions, an intern bus tour, the intern reception and the publisher’s luncheon.

      Future Jobs

      The News generally requires a minimum of three years’ experience for most newsroom positions. However, interns who have completed their degree are welcome to apply for permanent positions upon completion of their internships.

      Housing

      The News does not provide housing for its interns, nor does it pay a housing subsidy. The paper will assist interns, however, in finding reliable housing. Payment of rent and the fulfilling of all other lease requirements are the sole responsibility of the intern.

    • The Baltimore Sun offers an annual paid summer internship that commemorates the work of Mary J. Corey, a veteran reporter and editor who became the first woman to lead The Sun's newsroom.

      The person selected should have extensive journalism experience, either as a student journalist, or as an intern at a newspaper, or a combination of both. The intern will be selected on the basis of journalism qualifications and the degree to which she or he exemplifies the values of Mary Corey.

      • The paid internship will be open to rising college seniors, graduate-level students or 2020 graduates studying journalism.

      • Applications are due Oct. 15, 2019. Candidates will be required to write an essay about a journalism project they would like to pursue.

      • The selection committee for the internship will include The Sun’s publisher/executive editor, other newsroom staff and one person who will represent the Maryland journalism community.

    • The Boston Globe summer intern program began more than 50 years ago as an opportunity for college students interested in journalism to gain practical experience at a major news organization.

      The largest group of interns reports on local and regional news across New England as general assignment reporters — working on both breaking news for our Express Desk and longer daily and non-daily stories for our Super Department. Other intern reporters cover sports, living/arts or business news. We also have intern positions in the Photography and Editorial Design departments, and on the News copy desk.

      Internships are NOT limited to journalism majors. ELIGIBLE: All students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or those who will be graduating in May or June 2020, as well as journalism graduate school students who have NOT had professional journalism experience.

      An aptitude for journalism is the most important qualification for this internship. However, a previous internship is recommended. Applicants must have a driver’s license and should be comfortable driving.

      Summer interns work as full-time employees for 12 weeks, between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Interns are paid a weekly wage, and shifts vary.     • The Charlotte Observer, the largest newspaper in the Carolinas, is accepting applications for 2020 newsroom summer internships.

      From Day 1 of your internship, you will be welcomed as part of The Charlotte Observer staff. We expect our interns to function as beginning professionals from their first day: that is, to report or shoot video for stories ready to be edited for digital and print publication.

      Our summer learning program – Observer U – includes weekly seminars in which experienced reporters and editors discuss such topics such as reporting and writing news stories, researching public documents, shooting video on deadline assignments and understanding libel law. Each intern works with a mentor and can expect regular feedback and side-by-side editing. We are committed to helping you develop as a journalist.

      Some paid summer internships are available. We also have several academic interns each year. These students receive college credit or academic consideration for working here.     • The Chicago Tribune’s newsroom internship program seeks college juniors, seniors and graduate students for 12-week paid internships. Opportunities will be considered in all newsroom departments:  metro, sports, business, graphics, copy editing, design, photo/video, entertainment, events, social media and lifestyle.

      To be eligible, candidates must have completed at least one internship at a daily news organization other than their college paper.  Additionally, candidates must be able to work in the United States legally.  Interns will work 40 hours a week and must be able to, and often do, cover major stories their first days on the job.

    • The Christian Science Monitor is seeking editorial interns with solid journalism skills to write and edit across the Monitor’s various print and online platforms.     • The Downtown Austin Alliance offers internships in the fall, spring and summer. The internships are for full-time undergraduate or graduate students seeking class credit. 

      The student would work on a range of marketing and communications projects, including communications strategy planning, media relations, social network marketing, writing, events planning and database building and other administrative tasks. The student should be at least a junior and plan to work 20-25 hours a week.

    • The fellowship program of the Texas Music Office (TMO) in the Office of the Governor offers college students the opportunity to develop a working knowledge of the music industry. The TMO seeks students with excellent communication skills who want to learn how the music industry works, and who want to contribute to the TMO's research, publishing and marketing efforts.

      TMO fellowship recipients are required to work at least 12 (and as many as 20) hours each week researching and marketing Texas music businesses, events and talent. Responsibilities include: interviewing Texas music businesses owners; developing business statements based on these interviews; inputting information into the TMO's databases using FileMaker and Microsoft Access; responding to information requests from industry professionals and the general public; and researching Texas music on the web. Interns also assist TMO staff with administrative duties approximately 10 percent of the time. TMO fellowships are on a volunteer basis; interns do not receive any financial, housing, or transportation compensation or assistance.

      The Texas Music Office is the economic development office for the Texas music industry, and is the sister office to the Texas Film Commission. Annual TMO publications include the online Texas Music Industry Directory, the Texas Music Events Calendar, and many more. Fellowship recipients work closely with the TMO staff in assisting with these online publications.

      Getting started in the Texas music business isn't easy. TMO fellowships are an excellent way to become aware of important professional contacts who make music their business.

The creation of a year-round internship program with Texas State University students who want to be part of the on-going development work for Mermaid Week SMTX is mutually beneficial.     • The fellowship program of the Texas Music Office (TMO) in the Office of the Governor offers college students the opportunity to develop a working knowledge of the music industry. The TMO seeks students with excellent communication skills who want to learn how the music industry works, and who want to contribute to the TMO's research, publishing and marketing efforts.

      TMO fellowship recipients are required to work at least 12 (and as many as 20) hours each week researching and marketing Texas music businesses, events and talent. Responsibilities include: interviewing Texas music businesses owners; developing business statements based on these interviews; inputting information into the TMO's databases using FileMaker and Microsoft Access; responding to information requests from industry professionals and the general public; and researching Texas music on the web. Interns also assist TMO staff with administrative duties approximately 10 percent of the time. TMO fellowships are on a volunteer basis; interns do not receive any financial, housing, or transportation compensation or assistance.

      The Texas Music Office is the economic development office for the Texas music industry, and is the sister office to the Texas Film Commission. Annual TMO publications include the online Texas Music Industry Directory, the Texas Music Events Calendar, and many more. Fellowship recipients work closely with the TMO staff in assisting with these online publications.

    • Meals on Wheels seeks a communications intern for fall, spring and summer semesters to assist the marketing team with operations. The intern will assist with the maintenance of social media websites, graphic design duties, the collection of both video and written content for the organization's website, and general public relations and marketing duties.

      Candidates should have good writing skills, experience with social media marketing, and knowledge of video editing and graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.     • The Communication intern provides support to the director and manager of NPPC’s Communications Department, performing various tasks, which require strong writing, analytical and communications skills. Daily, the intern will read, compile and distribute media stories related to the U.S. pork industry. He or she also will attend meetings and congressional hearings when necessary to take photos and report on important information, therefore, a strong interest in public policy is beneficial. Weekly, the intern will help write a summary of NPPC’s legislative efforts for Capital Update.     • Con Mi MADRE’s mission is to empower young Latinas and their mothers through education and support services to increase preparedness, participation, and success in postsecondary education.
